Are Bee Health Collective and Project Apis m. run by the same staff?

Yes, Bee Health Collective and Project Apis m. share a dedicated team committed to improving honey bee health. BHC was created by PAm to expand access to credible, science-based resources and research. While both organizations operate independently, they collaborate closely to ensure that research findings are effectively shared with beekeepers, scientists, and the public. 

What does it mean that Bee Health Collective is now a 501(c)(3)?

As of 2024, the Bee Health Collective is an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit, meaning donations are tax-deductible for individuals and organizations. Project Apis m., which helped launch the Bee Health Collective, is a 501(c)(5) nonprofit. While donations to 501(c)(5) organizations are not typically tax-deductible. Therefore Bee Health Collective’s status enables greater opportunities for funding research and educational programs, allowing private donors and foundations to contribute while receiving tax benefits.

How much of my donation goes to research?

At the Bee Health Collective, we are committed to transparency and impact. The majority of donations go directly toward supporting honey bee research and educational initiatives. We keep administrative costs low to ensure your contribution has the greatest possible effect on improving pollinator health. 

How do you choose the research projects?

Research projects are selected through a rigorous, science-based review process. We collaborate with experts, including scientists, beekeepers, and agricultural stakeholders, to identify urgent issues facing honey bee health. Projects are prioritized based on scientific merit, relevance to current challenges, and potential for real-world impact. 

How does Bee Health Collective ensure research credibility?

BHC follows the rigorous research funding model established by Project Apis m. This process involves scientific advisors and industry leaders reviewing studies for scientific merit, relevance, and potential impact. By maintaining these high standards, BHC ensures that the research it funds and shares is both practical and beneficial to beekeepers and pollinators.

With record-breaking colony losses in 2025, this fund will support research to identify and mitigate key threats, ensuring beekeepers have the knowledge and tools to sustain their businesses and maintain essential pollination services. 

What is the Emerging Threat Fund, and why is it important?

The Emerging Threat Fund is a dedicated campaign launched by Project Apis m. and the Bee Health Collective to provide rapid-response funding for research addressing urgent honey bee health crises. With record-breaking colony losses in 2025, this fund supports efforts to quickly identify and respond to critical threats—helping beekeepers sustain their operations and maintain essential pollination services.

We’ve already received strong proposals from scientists ready to help—but to act without delay, we need additional funding. Continued support ensures we don’t miss a beat in protecting bee health and the agriculture that depends on it.

How can individuals and businesses support the Emerging Threat Fund? 

There are several ways to contribute to the Emerging Threat Fund: 

  • Direct Donations: Provide immediate funding for urgent research. 
  • Percent-of-Sales Donations: Businesses can allocate a portion of sales to support the fund. 
  • Round Up for Research: Retailers can offer customers the option to round up their purchases to donate. 
  • Naming Opportunities: Key sponsors can attach their name to the fund for high-impact recognition.
