About Us

Mission Statement

The Bee Health Collective is a new initiative to make science-based bee health information accessible to everyone. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit that is dedicated to funding research that enhances honey bee health, survival, and productivity. Bee Health Collective is the avenue by which Project Apis m. relays research results through accessible educational resources.

In partnership with Project Apis m., Bee Health Collective funds research that is informed by the needs of beekeepers to develop practical tools, solutions, and educational materials to support honey bee health and pollination security. We invest in the future of honey bee health by funding scholarships for the next generation of honey bee researchers. We partner with key stakeholders to translate research into practical, real-world solutions for bees. We bridge the gap between scientific discovery and practical application, ensuring beekeepers and the public have access to credible, data-driven resources.

Vision Statement

It is our shared vision to support and translate scientific research into practical, applied, real-world solutions and educational materials.

RESEARCH: Investing in practical research for impact today and into the future
RESOURCES: Resources to support beekeepers, the public, and honey bees
SOLUTIONS: Science-driven strategies for healthy bee populations

History

The Bee Health Collective was born from a 2020 meeting at UC Davis between the Almond Board of California, Project Apis m., and the National Honey Board. What began as a collaborative idea to create an industry-wide clearinghouse for honey bee research, job postings, agricultural statistics, and pollination-related events quickly grew to include key partners such as the California State Beekeepers Association, Bee Informed Partnership, and the USDA. The effort evolved into a central platform for gathering and sharing credible information on honey bee health, scientific research, the beekeeping industry, and its connections to agriculture, resource management, and the food supply.

To further this mission, the Bee Health Collective was formally established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2024. Now a sister organization to Project Apis m., it is governed by the same board and managed by Project Apis m. staff. This nonprofit status allows the Collective to receive tax-deductible donations from individuals and private foundations interested in supporting honey bee health research. All donated funds are used to support research through the same rigorous, science-driven proposal review process that guides Project Apis m.‘s funding decisions.

What we do

We fund and share research that enhances the health, survival, and productivity of honey bee colonies. We provide practical and tangible solutions for beekeepers, translating scientific research into practical, applied real-world solutions and educational materials.

Supporting all beekeepers

Project Apis m. and the Bee Health Collective are working together to expand support for beekeepers at all levels. The community has asked for reliable resources for beekeepers and increased impact. This collaboration allows us to:

  • Expand funding opportunities to support critical honey bee health initiatives.
  • Serve as a trusted hub for accurate, science based information.
  • Provide dedicated resources for beekeepers of any size and the general public.

Your Tax Benefit

Big News! In 2024, Bee Health Collective became an official 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. This means: Donations are tax-deductible, making it easier for individual donors and private foundations to support honey bee health research while meeting their tax-reporting needs. Bee Health Collective funds research through the same rigorous process as Project Apis m., ensuring that all studies are reviewed by scientific advisors and industry leaders for maximum impact.
